Boxy Tote
In this class, you’ll create a structured tote that holds its shape and stays open while you work. Designed with built-in metal stays, the bag has a wide, open top that makes it easy to see and access everything inside. It was originally created to carry a Featherweight sewing machine, but it works just as well for sewing projects, travel, or everyday use. You can fill it with cosmetics, medications, first aid supplies, blow dryers, knitting supplies, crochet supplies, cross stitch projects, or English paper-piecing supplies.
You will use stabilizers to give your bag structure, reinforce the base for durability, and assemble a fully lined tote with multiple pockets inside and out. The class also covers zipper installation and strap construction, with step-by-step guidance to help you feel comfortable working through each stage.
Required Materials:
- Sewing Machine (or you can rent one for $10/day)
- Basic Sewing Supplies – scissors, thread, seam ripper, rulers, rotary cutter.
- A notebook for notes is also a great idea!
- Fabric for Your Project - for this class, it is recommended not to use a striped or directional fabric for the first tote (there will be cutting directions available for these kind of fabrics, if necessary)

| Skill Details: | This class is best suited for confident beginners and intermediate sewists who are ready to expand their skills. Advanced beginner to intermediate skill required, due to sewing through thicknesses and detail of the bag. |
| Requirements: | It is VERY helpful to have your fabric and foam cut out before class. The teacher will send cutting instructions ahead of time to the attendee’s. |

| Instructor Bio: | Deborah Felts is a long-time sewer, quilter and creative maker for all things crafty. She started quilting in 2007 and took classes at Janet’s Sewing Bee, then at Block Therapy. She enjoys teaching through hands-on work with her friends and has taught this class before. |
